I'm glad you've included Ruth Galloway and Harry Nelson in 'The Great Detectives'. I read The Chalk Pit, and thought it was fabulous, not like a crime thriller at all (that may not sound it like it, but it's meant to be a compliment - I said the same about Christopher Fowler's The Water Room), because the characters and the various relationships between them are so well drawn and so credible.
